Senior Photos
Book your senior photoshoot in Spring of your junior year: avoid the heat of the summer and meet the year book submissions due date. Check with your school to determine the due date and standards such as no hat, portrait and lifestyle photos, and other school requirements.
Enclosed are some tips for your upcoming senior photo session. Believe it or not, you will look back at this yearbook in thirty years and you may choose to use your senior photo for college applications!
• Hair: If you need a haircut, please get one 5-7 days before your photoshoot to allow your hair to look fresh and natural. If you think you don’t need a haircut – ask a parent or trusted adult that is 10+ years your senior if you need a haircut — get an honest answer, you will be thankful in the long run when you look back at your photo with friends. Wash and dry your hair – they day of or the night before your photoshoot. Your hair should be clean and completely dry for your photoshoot.
• Clothing: If you are not sure what to wear or have a couple of favorites, then plan for a change of shirts or clothes. Solid color shirts are a staple and are versatile in a photoshoot. Lifestyle shots are popular if you want to do one that reflects your hobby, sports, favorite pass time is completely your call. If you have a club / team / letter jacket and want to use it for your photoshoot, then a white shirt under the jacket is sharp. Select something comfortable and that makes you feel confident!
◦ Feminine: Themes such as casual, cozy, dressy, school or sports related, preppy or edgy.
◦Masculine: t-shirt, polo, button down, seater. Jeans, and light and or dark shirt OR Khaki’s with colored shirts look awesome on camera. Don’t forget to shave or tidy up facial hair so that it reflects the you that you and your family want in your yearbook for years to come.
◦What to avoid: plunging necklines, T-shirts with oversize logos on the front
• Colors: Tried and true … select solid colors and colors that compliment your hair, eyes, and skin color. The goal is to focus on you.
◦Feminine: Consider, Red, Royal blue, yellow, emerald green, bright purples, pink, oranges. Straps and layers should complement each other.
◦Masculine: Consider, black, white, charcoal, royal blue, navy, burgundy, red, forest green mustard, tan, pink, and purple photograph best. Plaid and stripe shirts also look great.
◦What to avoid: light pastel and neon colors. White can be tricky – it may wash out your skin color.
• Textures and Layers: Play with textures, smooth with knit, silk and sparkles, jean jacket or leather all photograph well. Layers such as plaid under a vest, or a scarf add dimension to your image.
• Accessories: Bring them, then you can decide whether they are in or out.

• Nails – many people choose to have poses with hands close to their face – trim your nails or you might consider a manicure. Try to avoid chipped polish and crazy patterns. French manicures, light and natural colors or no color look best.
